Back to the Future and time travel (review)

Back to the Future
Yesterday I watched the first Back to the future movie again. I used to watch it with my older brother when I was about 7 years old and too young to understand everything. It was an awesome movie I really enjoyed, probably the greatest one about time travel, however, also full of paradoxes.

We see in the movie Marty and his siblings fading away on a picture after their mum falls in love with the in-the-past-travelled Marty instead of his father. They are fading away because Marty changed the past by getting hit by the car instead of his father and later by causing the musician injured so he couldn’t play the lovesong that made his parents kiss, marry, make kids. Marty is fading away while playing guitar and trying to fix everything. This seems logical, because he will not exist when the picture was taken – he will not be born. But if he was not born, how could he travel back in time and mess up the past which caused not being born?

What I am trying to make clear is that time travel like in this movie turns over cause and effect and makes no sense. It is not plausible that Marty succeeded to fix almost everything except his brother and sister don’t work at MC’Donalds and his father is actually not a loser. Choices we make have effects and these effects might cause other things happen and might have big consequences (butterfly-effect), but in the movie everything else expect the mentioned stayed pretty much the same.

Donnie Darko
‘Time travel’ in the movie Donnie Darko is more plausible to me, because (spoiler alert) the first universe collapses if an object or person travels through a wormhole and any change in the past occurs. The size of the change does not matter – there is a new timeline and you are not able to go to the same universe you came from.

But ok, we should not take the movie too serious, because if we do we can hardly enjoy any sience-fiction movie. Darth Vaders from Vulcan and those kind of stuff. It was funny. :D The movie is really fun. It is not the best movie, but probably one of the funniest ones I could watch over and over again and I can not wait to watch the second part again.
